ADHD Assessment

What is ADHD?

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopment condition characterised by differences in brain and cognitive development. Symptoms include greater difficulties with focusing and sustaining attention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity than would be expected for a persons age.

ADHD is common, with 6 – 8% of Australian children, and 3 – 5% of Australian adults experiencing persistent, impairing and developmentally inappropriate inattention, poor executive function, hyperactivity and/or impulsivity.

Diagnosis – Our psychologists will ask you questions about ADHD symptoms, personal strengths and how much the symptoms are impacting your every day life. During your assessment we will ask to obtain information from other people such as a partner, parents, teachers or friends. Our psychologist may provide you or your family member with a symptom rating scale to complete as part of a full diagnostic assessment.

Education & Information- We provide education and information about ADHD and evidence-based treatment options available to you. These options are designed to encourage each individual to make informed decisions leading to a better life.

Animal Assisted Services

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy – We offer CBT delivered in individual and group formats that are tailored to meet the needs of adults or children with ADHD. Our programs focus on strengths and specific challenges associated with ADHD. Co-occuring conditions such as anxiety or depression may also be addressed.

Referral
you do not need a referral to attend ADHD diagnosis appointments, however if you are able to get a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from your GP this will entitle you to a Medicare rebate on the sessions you will need to attend for testing. Please be advised this practice does not bulk bill.
Attendance
assessment process for ADHD will involve attendance to at least two one-hour appointments. Further appointments may be required and will be discussed with you by your psychologist.
Report
paid diagnostic report detailing your diagnosis will be provided after required testing is completed. This report may vary in price based on complexity, and report length will be discussed with you by your psychologist. This report is not rebatable under MHCP.
Diagnosis
following a diagnosis of ADHD you will need to see a psychiatrist to be prescribed any required medication, we are not able to provide this service.
Continued support
we can provide continued support in the form of regular psychology sessions to discuss strategies and coping mechanisms for daily life and in the workplace.
